| On Dec.31, 1989, the
university announced as its new coach a man who had made
his mark by taking the Gators where they had never before
gone. Alumnus Allen Trammell, who had played in the
backfield with Spurrier, sensed then that the elusive
national championship season might soon be at hand. "The way I feel right now is the way I felt back in the '60s when we were in the huddle," he said. "Steve's here, and everything's going to be all right." Steve Spurrier has the highest winning percentage of any Gator coach and one of the highest of all time. He has brought SEC titles and National Championships to Gators around the world. During the 90s Florida has ranked in the Top 25 92% of the weeks and has been to post season play every year in Spurrier regime. |
