11/10 Florida 54 Cocks 17
| What were those fans
thinking dressing in black? That made it easier!! In a game
that started with catastrophe fumble by Lito Sheppard, but the Gators
ROMP Lou Holtz (feels good) and beat the Gamecocks from Carolina 54-17.
The Gators made it a perfect game by not punting and not making key
mistakes on the turnover side (2 close INTs and Graham recovered his own
fumble). Grossman continues with his school record nine consecutive 300+ yard games, in fact Spurrier left him in the game late to achieve this milestone. In addition he passed for three TDs and rushed for one early in the game. It is fair to say that this was a mismatch much like Georgia, Vandy or Kentucky which leads me to believe we have an excellent team and a very good shot at Tennesee in The Swamp in three weeks, as they lost to UGA and barely got by Carolina. This was the most points allowed by the Holtz incarnation of these Cocks. On the kicking side, Jeff Chandler was a perfect 4-4 and they were not chip shots. These are important field goals and accounted for 12 points. I would have liked to see 2 TDs and 2 FGs, but that is just me. For South Carolina, the three best players got hurt -- Kalimba Edwards, Derek Watson and Petty. Who knows what impact that will have on the Gamecocks going forward, but they got beat up physically and on the scoreboard. Let's just say "they got pounded!!". Finally, defensively, we held those guys to 66 yards in the second half, and I believe the turning point was when Alex Brown (future #1 draft pick in the NFL) hit the USC QB and that led to Florida getting the ball at the end of the 1st half and score a TD. After that play, Florida never looked back. The Gators are having the best year in the Spurrier era. Grossman is a serious Hiesman contender. Gaffney became the first receiver in Florida history with consecutive 1000 yards in a season. Records are broken every weekend. One streak we need to break is our losing streak to those SemenHoles next Saturday. So, not it comes down to our annual bash with f$u. I believe this will be an easy win and fsu will simply be a small bump on the road to our SEC championship rematch against Auburn. I also believe that if we win out, we will be in the Rose Bowl. Miami will be hurt by strength of schedule and OK/NEB will beat each other out. Also, Miami plays Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. See ya in LA!!
