| In a game that most Gators
simply wanted a sweet revenge, it turns out that it was rather ugly for
the Nation of Bulldogs. We Silenced the Cowbells. Missy
State is going home embarrassed and Jackie Sherrill can eat his words.
Rex Grossman threw for a career-high 393 yards and five touchdowns, and linebacker Andra Davis led the Gators (4-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) to their first SEC shutout since 1996, Florida's national-championship season. Grossman had 317 yards by halftime to surpass the 300-yard mark for the fourth straight game, breaking a record held by himself and Shane Matthews (1990 and 1992). Besides the late touchdown, the only real suspense in the second half was whether the Bulldogs would score. They never came close, and Florida recorded its first conference shutout since a 65-0 victory over Kentucky five seasons ago. Davis, the linebacker who was injured last year when Florida gave up 351 yards rushing in the loss to Mississippi State, plugged the middle and finished with a team-leading 5 tackles and one fumble recovery. Looking ahead, we got LSU in Baton Rouge. Probably our toughest road test and based on what I saw yesterday vs. Tenn., LSU should be easy. |
