Game Notes

The Gators will not be proving anyone this week their #1 ranking when the face lowly Louisiana-Monroe.  In fact, they should take it easy on this team and simply empty the benches and play conservative when it becomes a 40+ point lead.  The only thing the Gators must do is not look ahead to Tennessee.

The Gators are coming off last week with a 49-14 victory over Marshall, improving to 65-4 at home under Spurrier, including 48-0 against unranked teams. Rex Grossman, who won the starting job from fellow sophomore Brock Berlin, threw for a career-best 375 yards and three touchdowns as the Gators opened a 35-0 halftime lead. Earnest Graham rushed for a career-high three touchdowns.  Florida's defense dominated early, recording five sacks, including two each by Alex Brown and Andra Davis. Brown moved within two of Alonzo Johnson's school career record of 27.5 sacks.

Having Miami top us in the other poll is not a big deal.  What matters is what the standings are on Jan 4 after the Rose Bowl.  The ULM team is coming off a loss against Sam Houston State (?!) 20-9...Let's feel sorry for them.

I was reading in the media guide that Stan Humphries is their offensive coordinator.  In 1998, this same team came to Gainesville and lost.  They were NE-Louisiana.  I guess that payday was not enough.  Not much on this game.  The usual game 2 tune-up and look for the Gators big.

I am looking forward to Tenn in The Swamp next week.
