11/04 Florida 43 Vandy 23

In a game that we had to blow Vandy out in order to continue to have a chance for the high BCS rankings, the Florida Gators come out slow, but eventually blow out the Commodores 43-20.

Rex Grossman did not look sharp starting the game and as always the Vanderbilt team came out smoking.  The first half ended the same way the Georgia game ended, with a huge shift in momentum and Florida scoring to go up on Vandy 17-13.  They never looked back.

The Gators intercepted five passes and Grossman threw for a career-high 334 yards and two touchdowns as Florida (No. 5 ESPN/USA Today, No. 6 AP) beat Vanderbilt 43-20 on Saturday.

The Gators had their best defensive performance of the season, holding Vanderbilt to 199 total yards, and have forced a record 33 turnovers this season. Florida finished with 475 yards total offense as Taylor Jacobs, Earnest Graham and Robert Gillespie each added rushing touchdowns.

Grossman lost the ball after being hit by Vandy lineman Jamie Winborn in the first quarter, and one of the Commodores picked it up and was headed to the end zone. The officials gave the ball to Florida and ruled a 5-yard loss, which Spurrier called a good break since Grossman's arm was going forward with no receiver nearby.

Now we prepare for the game against Lou Holtz and the surprising South Carolina Game Dicks.  In The Swamp with 85K people, USC has no chance.  This will be a sweet game for Spurrier as we lost to Holtz back when he coached Notre Dame in the early eighties at the Nokia Sugar Bowl (I still remember Jerome Bettis running up and down on us).

Go Gators.
