Game Notes
This is one of longest rivalries in college football. Many long time Gators including myself always look at this game as our biggest rivalry, but in recent years since we have come to beat these guys so much, we simply assume we will win. No so fast. These are the Georgia Dawgs. Anybody with a little history behind them remembers Lindsey Scott and Hershel Walker (that is as far as I can go).
The two schools have played 77 times. More than any other opponent in Gator history. Since 1933 and through 1993 the games were played in Jacksonville in the Gator Bowl. 94-95 was played home and home as the city of Jax remodeled the stadium to what is know as Alltell Stadium or home of the "Jaggoffs". In 1996 the game was moved back into Jax for what is known as the "world Largest Cocktail Party"
Florida is 9-1 in the last 10 years and Spurrier owns the Dawgs. He loves beating them as he also knows how heated this rivalry really means.
This year was supposed to be the year of the Dawgs. With Quincy Carter and company back, they were picked to win the SEC East. With a loss vs. South Carolina and an iffy win vs. Kentucky, UGA is not impressing anyone. In fact, look for Florida to blow them out early with Rex Grossman hooking up with a wide menu of receivers.
Quincy Carter will play, but he will be limited and we may see the back up that played in UK this week. In addition, our turnover ratio is second best in the nation, so look for the Gators to cause trouble for the UGA offense.
As always the crowd will not be a factor as it is always even 50-50 UGA - UF. However, if it comes down to a field goal, our kicker is awesome and we should not have trouble in this area.
Look for the Gators to romp some UGA ass and position themselves as the team to beat in the SEC.
