Other Week Results

Dec 2 Florida 28 Auburn 6

The blow out was not as convincing this time, but the result was the same.  Rex Grossman and our tandem of receivers combined with a dominating running attack blew out auburn in the 2000 SEC Championship last night in Atlanta.

CONGRATULATION GATOR NATION - 2000 SEC CHAMPIONS

Ernest Graham rushed for 169 yards and the defense came up with three balls that were converted into scores.  This is the sixth conference title in 10 years.  The last three have not gone our way with losses in LSU, vs Georgia and last year that embarrassing defeat to Alabama (look at them now!).

This was a game that we had to win.  Auburn was already satisfied with their results and were pleased by just getting to this game.  Us Gators on the other hand, would have considered this season a failure if we lost to Auburn and go to another shit bowl.

The game had its moments of uncertainty for the Gators as we had two fumbles and one INT.  However, Our defense held and they just could not convert.  Grossman, selected the most valuable player, was 17-of-26 for 238 yards with one interception. He has shared playing time with senior Jesse Palmer much of the season. But coach Steve Spurrier followed through with his plan to start the redshirt freshman and stick with him; Palmer was on the field for only two plays.

About the only thing upsetting to the Florida contingent at the Georgia Dome was when the referee mistakenly said, "Timeout, Georgia" instead of the Gators. Georgia was favored to win the SEC East but fell from contention with a 34-23 loss to Florida on Oct. 28.

The game had no impact on the national championship race. Florida was eliminated with a 30-7 loss to No. 3 Florida State two weeks ago.  However, as Steve Spurrier always says - "This is our goal, to win a conference title and if we put ourselves in a position to be #1 then great".  This year we did not beat those SEMEN-holes, so playing Miami in the Sugar bowl will do just fine.  The Canes will be a formidable opponent and I look forward to that game.
