9/4/99 Florida 55 W. Michigan 26
| As usual, the Gators enter the 1999 season with
an impressive (kinda?) win over a not so impressive opponent. The
defense is going to get a bad rap this game as WMU burnt the secondary a
couple of time. If you see the details behind the game, the defense
actually did not play so bad, but they gave up three long plays for three
scores. sucks, but it happened. Against an SEC team this must
improve.
The offense was working on all cylinders, still with Doug Johnson style passes (sometimes relying too much on "jump balls"), but nevertheless it worked against WMU. The nation's longest winning streak continues at 28. The Gators faced their former interim coach of Gary Darnell who was at one point considered for the position Coach Spurrier took in 1990. Their QB was pretty good and they have an excellent wide receiver in Neal. The kicking game looked good. We actually tried fields goals, and to my surprise we make BOTH!! we even blocked a PAT. This is a major improvement over last years debacle of a kicking game. BOTTOM LINE |
