10/10 Florida 22 LSU 10

Another ugly win for the Gators mired by season ending injuries to key players and one trick play put Florida on top of the LSU Tigers by a score of 22-10 last night in front of a national ESPN audience in the Swamp.

This win puts the memory of last years disappointing 28-21 loss in Baton Rouge and will probably put the nails in the LSU SEC coffin.

In the third quarter, Travis McGriff took a lateral from Doug Johnson and threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Travis Taylor for the clinching score over No. 11 LSU. This trick play was one of the few highlights for the Gators in a season that has become almost uncomfortable to watch with all these fumbles, penalties - and now injuries - piling up almost by the minute.  For example, two long Terry Jackson runs were waived by penalties, Doug Johnson was almost picked three times, and Gillispie recovered two fumbles deep in Florida territory.

In terms of injuries, this game started with a terrible season ending injury to Ed Chester.  Then came Palmer's shoulder injury, and Terry Jackson is now questionable for next game.

Thanks to the defense, Herb Tyler did not have much of a chance, and the held LSU to only 10 points and the Gator offense got the ball from LSU intercepting in the end-zone and avoiding an LSU TD.  Also Kevin Faulk (for sure an NFL starter next year) was held to just 77 yards and no big plays.

Gillispie showed excellent moves and he will be the star back for the next few years.   Lets hope he stays healthy.

Finally, we must improve our special teams.  What is up with Wasielewski?   This guy can't punt.  He is terrible!  30 and 40 yard line drives.   Also, on the receiving side:  Capel?  Great speed but hands of butter! Gators need to improve their red-zone scoring since our field-goal kicking SUCKS!!  We must improve in this area.

Florida’s six first half points equaled the lowest first half total at home in the Spurrier Era...The last time Florida had six or fewer points at home was against Alabama in 1991 as the Gators led 6-0 at the half.

BOTTOM LINE:  Florida needs to take care of all the little mistakes, as well as iron out Doug Johnson's nerves, or else the Gators will be hurting. A Swamp game against Auburn and a bye week before playing Georgia in Jacksonville should give us time to find our offensive rhythm -- and heal all those nagging injuries.
