10/3 Florida 16 Bama 10
| It was not pretty, but in November this is just
another "W". The Gators again played with many mistakes, lack of
discipline, and this time almost beat themselves (down to the last 19 seconds). Player of the game, Travis McGriff caught nine passes for 213 yards and a touchdown, but the Gators couldn't relax until Tony George (after getting toasted for 50+ yards) intercepted Alabama's last-gasp drive with 19 seconds left. The Gators failed to capitalize on six trips in the Red Zone (inside the 12 yard line for that matter), and settled for chip shot field goals (at least we got those) and fumbled three other times. This was a pathetic offensive performance compared to what our defense did in holding Bama's potent rushing attack to 41 yards and forcing the Tide to switch quarterbacks. Again, the Florida QB tandem was a carbon copy from each other including 300+ passing yards and again they were ineffective scoring a measly 16 points and barely getting by. Frankly, it seems like the Gators are challenging themselves to see how bad they can play without losing. It did not payoff against the Vols, and the difficult schedule stretch is coming up. The biggest issue is discipline/mistakes/turnovers. BOTTOM LINE: 3 Field Goals, 3 Turnovers, 8 penalties and terrible punting. This will not do it against LSU, UGA and fsu. Something must change and I expect the Gators in Gainesville to be fired up and win big against LSU. |
