11/15 Florida 48 South Carolina 21
| FRED TAYLOR, FRED TAYLOR, FRED
TAYLOR. Although the score would show otherwise, this was another ugly win for the Gators. With a tie 14-14 midway through the 3rd quarter, the Gators turned the ball over twice and South Carolina failed to score missing two field goals (one was blocked by Elijah Williams). Then Noah Brindise hit a huge bomb to Quezie Green and the Fred Taylor took the ball in on a great run. Finally, the Gators recovered a fumble and scored a TD which took the wind out of the Carolina Chickens' sails, but next week we can't afford to make these mistakes against fsu. Fred Taylor had a phenomenal game and he must have this kind of game against fsu in the Swamp if we are to have any chance of beating the SemenHoles. Taylor had a career high 170 yards becoming the 5th Gator in Florida history to rush for 1,000+ yards in a season. His NFL stock is picking up with all this running (its about time you figured it out Spurrier!!) and he might have moved up a few spots in the draft. For some reason, Spurrier still brought Doug Johnson in the game and he basically stunk the place up completing 3 of 5 (oops on of those completions was an INTERCEPTION!!). So here me out coach Spurrier - Mr. Quarterback coach... Doug Johnson SUCKS, stay with Brindise on the short, high percentage, safe routes and use Palmer next year. Run the 2-set back offense against fsu and go deep when the least expect it. When the Gamecocks opened the 2nd half with the kickoff return that resulted in a TD, I thought it was all over - an embarrassing loss to the lowly Gamecocks. However, Florida's defense is too strong to let this happened and held itself tough. S. Carolina failed to score on those two turnovers and that was their chance to make the upset happen. Statiscally the game was pretty even, in fact Florida had more penalties and had the ball about 9 minutes less than the Chickens, but the score shows a different tale. A critical moment was a punt by Robby Stevenson in which the USC returner failed to catch the ball. It rolled inside the 15 yard line and the Gamecocks lost the field position game at that point. Finally, Florida scored on the last drive with virtually no time left. Ahead 41-21 they scored another TD (Palmer to Carrol). The JP announcers were all over Spurrier for doing this. They said: "this is like adding salt to a open wound". Frankly, I feel Spurrier has a chance to test his offense in game situation and he should run his offense during the 60 minutes of play. Some people feel its running up the score.... that is nonsense. So what can we expect next week? RUN THE BALL STEVE!! fsu will come in very confident and with their cheesy #1 rating, THE SWAMP will be ready. Our fans will make a difference in this game, but stay tuned for my preview next week. I will take this ugly win but the score does not reflect the quality of game the Gators played. Moreover, Florida does finish 6-2 in the SEC (worst since 1989 ...pre-Spurrier era) which is not that bad and are now in a position to go to the Citrus or Outback bowls. Who knows if UT or UGA slip we might be in the alliance bowls (Fiesta or Sugar). |
