Series Games and Notes
| The Florida-Georgia
game is one of the longest, most historic, and very
folkloric rivalries in college football. The two schools
have met 74 times with UGA holding a big 43-29-2 lead,
but recently Florida has owned the Dawgs with 7 straight
wins including a recent home and home series due to
construction in the old Gator Bowl for the NFL's Jaguars
(now its known as Alltel Stadium). Florida has played UGA
more than any other opponent in its football history. I had the misfortune of being at the 1984 UF-UGA game when UF lost 27-0 to Georgia after being ranked #1 for one week. Vince Dooley in a wonderful coaching job fired up his troops to beat a better, but "Sports Illustrated Jinxed" Florida team. In those days, Kerwin Bell was throwing to Rickey "The Rocket" Nattiel with Neal Anderson in the backfield and a defense lead by Alonzo Johnson with what was known as "The Best Team Money can Buy" due to NCAA violations from the Charley Pell era. It was at this game that a bunch of UGA fans stomped on the field and beat up Albert - The Gator resulting in SEC sanctions towards Georgia and injuries the the student that was in the Albert suit. More recentyly, Coach Spurrier has never lost to Georgia as a coach and is not planning on doing so this year. UGA has a tough game (for them ...hahahah) against mighty? Kentucky which beat UGA last year. The Gators, with the bye week, can rest and watch film and practice in preparation for the Dawgs. The only open questions is who will start and in my mind there is no doubt it should be Johnson. I think Spurrier is just playing with the media and with Johnson keeping him honest so that he does not make his mistake again. I expect a one sided game much like the first 5 games of the season. UGA fans will be fired up for this game as it means everything for them, but lately not much for us. I also expect to see Johnson back on track throwing for 3+ TDs and finishing somewhere in the third quarter while Brindise will come in and score a few more times. UGA is #15, but this is a little over-rated due to the opponents played and their record. I believe Kentucky will play UGA pretty good and we will end up playing a beat up UGA team and roll over the nasty Dawgs. I predict a Florida win 41-14. |
