10/18 Florida 24 Auburn 10
| In the aftermath of
a disappointing loss and the Doug Johnson suspension the
offonse "rides" the Defense and hush all the
critics taming the Tigers from Auburn 24-10. It was an impressive display of how the best coach in the country can adjust and play to his strengths and changing from the Fun-and-Gun to the Fun-and-Run with Stoops Troops in front carrying you though the game. A game that opened with an impressive drive that showcased a trick play with a lateral and throw by Jacquez Green. However, Jesse Palmer did make two critical mistakes and Steve Spurrier "yanked" him out in favor of the third string QB. However, in Spurrier's football system the QB is interchangeable as proven today. With most of the 3rd quarter remaining, the Florida offense was deep in their own territory. Former walk-on QB Noah Brindise in relief for a flaky Jesse Palmer organized an awesome 97 yard drive to put the Gators ahead 17-10. It culminated with a beautiful catch by Jacquez Green. Then it was up to the Gator defense to keep Auburn three-and-out and they did. Every now and then they would get the first down, but when Auburn was in field goal range...Heisman wannabe Dameyune Craig would get sacked for a loss that brought them back to midfield and the Gator "D" would prevail. It was a classic case of the Gators Defense being better than the highly touted but not good enough Auburn Offense. However, Auburn is in the drivers seat and controls their own destiny as they are in first place of the SEC west and will most likely meet the Gators in Atlanta in the Championship Game. Plus, all other teams in the west have lost 2 games already including that powerhouse from Baton Rouge by losing today to Ole Miss. As for the Gators, their hopes for a National Title are still very much alive as most the Top 5 ahead of the Gators still play against each other or play in big critical, difficult, road or rivalry games. Next week is off for the Gators as the prepare for the nasty Georgia Bulldogs. |
