9/27 Florida 55 Kentucky 28

This game was not even remotely close to what UK, the media, and all those Gator haters wanted... an upset with Kentucky's resurgence, new coach, and "no longer" Heisman candidate Tim Couch. Surprise, Surprise.... the Gators are the defending National Champions and were not going to allow a pretender like Kentucky (they might get better... I give them 3 years) come close to covering the spread. As predicted, the Gators covered with a 55-28 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in Commonwealth Stadium.

Doug Johnson threw five TD passes, of which three went to Jacquez Green blowing out the "mildCats" by 28 points in the first quarter alone. On the first play from scrimmage UK QB Tim Couch got intercepted (bad call, but we will take it) and the Gators scored on a 16 yard run from Fred Taylor(it took 28 seconds to shut that UK crowd down). This set the tone for what was to come.... a Florida victory.

The weather was hot and muggy and those Kentucky fans were fired up. I have been to this game for the last 8 years and these fans had their Basketball attitudes on. Things have changed with new UK Coach Mumme. This was quietly taken care of by the Gator offensive machine and the tough Gator "D" who did not allow Tim Couch past the 50 yard line until midway through the second quarter (Florida was already up 28-0).

UK desperately tried to come back including successful conversions of a fake punt and an on-side kick. However, they failed to score after succeeding on such low percentage plays.

As predicted, Tim Couch got his numbers and Kentucky looked impressive at times. However, Florida prevailed with many second stringers playing most of the 2nd half.

I had a great time at the game which always has strong Gator fan support from all those mid-western Gators that can travel down to Lexington for their bi-annual ritual.

On the improvement notes.....we missed another extra-point (AGAIN!!) and this must have Spurrier very concerned. On the bright side, Florida kicked the ball into the endzone on just about every kick-off.
