9/20 Florida 33 Tennessee 20
| Another great
performance by the best defense in the country takes all
the pressure off of Doug Johnson and the Gator offense.
With Doug Johnson having a so-so game, Florida needed the
support from the "D" and great help late in the
game from RB Fred Taylor and RB Terry Jacksonto help run
it out. The score makes it look closer than what it
really was... another Tennessee flogging as predicted
right here on fsuSUCKS.com. The Gators pressured Heisman "wanna-be" Peyton Manning and forced two interceptions, which helped Peyton achieve the honor of being the first Tennessee QB to loose four straight to the Florida Gators. Rocky Top was so happy to see him stay in college and come back for one more year. Too bad UT just can't beat UF, and now the Vols put themselves in the driver's seat to be in the Citrus Bowl for yet another year and like Spurrier says "You can't spell CiTrUs without a "U" and a "T" (hahahaha)). But enough about them and lets talk about us. CB Fred Weary's play was outstanding as he came up with a big defensive plays, and SS Tony George ran one interception all the way back 88 yards for a touchdown. Critics will point out that the Gators were out gained by 38 yards, but like last year, the bulk of these yards came after the game was over and Florida was playing more "prevent" with 2nd stringers instead of the aggressive defense the starters play in the first three quarters. The score would be 40-14 if it were not for Steve Spurrier's decency and mercy to not score with 3 minutes left or if that great punt return was not penalized by 42 yards. However, Gator fans are very pleased with the results of this game as we beat the Vols for the 4th straight year and put ourselves in first place in the SEC east race. Improvement Areas: Place kicking and punting. We miss Bart Edmiston and Shane Edge. We have missed three PAT this year and one field goal. We will not win a National Championship if our kicking game doesn't improve. Doug Johnson can't put it in the end-zone every time. Lets keep watching this area in the weeks to come. |
